CASE STUDY — RIVERSIDE METHODIST HOSPITAL, COLUMBUS OH
DSDS lets Ohio's second-largest hospital test 1,000+ dampers from the ground.
A sprawling campus with over 1,000 fire dampers requiring regular testing — in operating rooms, NICUs, pharmacies, and corridors that never stop being used.

The challenge
Regular testing across 1,000+ fire dampers meant two-person crews, scissor lifts, containment areas, and HEPA cart rentals — with ceiling tiles coming down in operating rooms, laboratories, and occupied corridors. External testing contractors carried the load at significant recurring cost, and the disruption to clinical operations was constant.
The solution
Over 100 DSDS devices were installed across the facility, giving maintenance staff a permanent, ground-level test port at every hard-to-reach detector. Each device gives technicians a repeatable, code-compliant test point without ceiling access or containment setup.
The results
The facility reports elimination of thousands in staff and equipment costs — ceiling-access labor and HEPA cart rentals — and single-technician testing campus-wide — with every test fully NFPA 72-compliant and documented.
"With the DSDS system, testing now simply involves removing the fire damper cap, inserting cable cameras, and verifying function — requiring only one technician. It significantly reduced the man-hours previously required."
